Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Therapeutic Recreation, assists in providing programs to residents in accordance with needs of the residents and rules of regulatory agencies. Experience working with the Dementia population preferred.

Responsibilities

 
* 
Provides data to department head and recreation specialist for their completion or required documentation and completion of MDS.
* 
Implements daily recreation program for the residents of assigned unit under the guidance of the department head.
* 
Assists in the preparation for programs; encourages residents participation and assists in transportation of residents to these programs.
* 
Visits residents who cannot attend programs.
* 
Attends interdisciplinary team conferences as directed.  Exchanges information with other  professionals to ensure that proper recreational activities are selected to assist resident in meeting goals.
* 
Completes written documentation including attendance records and progress notes.
* 
Maintains adequate amount of supplies and equipment for use in recreational activities .  Notifies department head of needs in this area.
* 
Attends staff development programs including mandatory education programs.
* 
In the absence of the director , is responsible to the senior Therapist for the daily operation in the department.
* 
Complies with guidelines of the HAZCOM program.
* 
In the spirit of cooperation and in response to resident needs, may perform clearly related duties as requested and clearly unrelated duties as requested in an emergency.

Qualifications

AA degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field is preferred or high school diploma and a minimum of two years previous experience in activities /recreation may be considered.
