-Ensuring that the infection prevention and control program at ArchCare (aka PROTECT ArchCare) is followed and maintained in the nursing home.

-Assists in developing and implementing program initiative, policies, and education related to infection prevention for associates and patients.

-Monitor patterns, prevalence and trends, conduct surveillance and evaluate healthcare associated infections using epidemiologic principles by review and interpretation of microbiology, laboratory and diagnostic reports and medical records in the community programs. Monitors the effectiveness of the PROTECT ArchCare program in the nursing home.

-Supports teamwork essential for compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards through surveillance, effective prevention and control activities specific to a variety of practice settings, and accurate reports.

-Assists in developing for the nursing home an education and training program on infection prevention and control, in conjunction with the infection and prevention medical director, the corporate infection and prevention and control nurse and ArchCare’s education and training department.

-Participate in said educational and training sessions as indicated.

-Monitors and evaluates prevalence of healthcare associated infections in the nursing home.

-Activities may include:

  1. Application of the nursing process in assessing, planning, and evaluating the PROTECT ArchCare program.
  2. Communicate with appropriate sources in response to clusters, outbreaks as well as emergency situations.
  3. Participates in the PROTECT ArchCare committee.
  4. Perform Infection Control Risk Assessments in the nursing home as necessary and monitor.
  5. Participate in facility-wide Emergency Preparedness activities related to infection control measures relating to communicable disease outbreaks.

- Other duties as assigned.


-Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

-a minimum of five years of current experience and ideally, within the last three years, in a comparable job classification

-Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State

-Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC)
