Overview

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Therapeutic Recreation or Designee, provides professional hair care services to residents.

Education & Experience

Formal Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience

License, Registration, and / or Certification Requirement

Yes

Minimum Knowledge

Requires thorough knowledge of a specialized or technical field.

Language Ability

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Education Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of accredited beautician program.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of one year. Experience in a geriatric setting is a plus.

License Requirements

  • Current license as a beautician in New York State.

Essential Functions

  • Performs necessary procedures that provide full hair care service's to all residents as scheduled by unit clerk or designee. Procedures include: washing, haircuts, setting, styling, coloring, permanents, etc.
  • Keep records of work done on all residents.
  • Do all cash transaction's, take charge slips and /or cash to accounting office.
  • Complete unit clerk's beauty list and submit to Assistant Administrator at end of shift (it will be returned to unit clerk when statistics are recorded.
  • Maintains adequate supplies in shop. Requisition supplies as needed through the purchasing department.
  • Observes infection control standards and keep beauty ship neat and clean during the working day.
  • Submit needed work orders for malfunctioning equipment to Engineering.
  • Participate in fire safety program and emergency preparedness program.
  • Understand and cooperate with the quality assurance program.
  • Attends Staff Development programs including mandatory education programs.
  • Complies with guidelines of the HAZCOM program.
  • In the cooperation and in response to resident needs, it may be necessary to perform other related duties as requested and unrealated in case of emergency.

Responsibilities

- Provides cosmetology services for the residents of Terence Cardinal Cooke

- Washes, cuts and sets hair; gives permanents and manicures to the Residents.

- Processes charge vouchers for payment.

- Maintains all Beauty Shop records.

- Requisitions supplies from the Purchasing Department.

- Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and the general condition and appearance of the Beauty Shop.

- Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Graduate of a Beauty School preferred and Long Term Care experience preferred.
