  • Overview

    Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief Experience Officer, the Senior Director will implement programs to improve retention and engagement of the 4,400 workforce. The Senior Director administers all aspects of the labor and employee relations function for ArchCare and its programs. This individual provides a central point of leadership, knowledge, and advice to human resource leaders, staff, and management at all ArchCare programs. This person evaluates employment and labor practices, recommend policies, and formulate guidelines. Ensures that all employment practices are in compliance with policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable law. Oversee all aspects of grievances, arbitrations, contract interpretation, outside complaints, and litigation. Monitors labor activity, and quickly respond to issues, including participation in labor negotiations, as necessary.

    LABOR AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

    • Shape the labor relations culture of the system by providing effective guidance and counsel. Assist management in making appropriate assessments of applicants as well as overall employee performance and potential. Provide advice on labor issues as it relates to improving operations and increasing organizational effectiveness.
    • Coordinate case investigations and accumulate information for the defense of all arbitrations, complaints, and litigation.
    • Work closely with facility management and staff to ensure that decisions are made with an appropriate level of expertise, and in accordance with policy, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable law. Ensure adherence to all government regulation, including FLSA, EEO, OSHA, NLRB, ADA, FMLA, etc.
    • Oversee the process of employee status changes, including new hires; wage adjustments; promotions/transfers; terminations; etc. Provide advice to corporate staff on pay decisions; policy and guideline interpretation; and job evaluation. Design creative solutions to specific compensation-related issues.

    EMPLOYEE RETENTION, MORALE AND ENGAGEMENT

    • Develop and implement programs for improving employee relations and facilitating conflict resolution. Recommend, manage and coordinate strategies to assess and improve employee morale. Provide feedback and recommendations on employee morale to senior management. Coordinate employee activities, and reward recognition programs.
    • Monitor turnover activity and exit interview results; advise on trends, and make recommendations for follow-up when necessary.
    • Maintain superior customer service to all internal and external customers. Establish trust with all constituents by being a resource that is dependable, and provide useful counsel in solving problems.
    • Respond to personnel shortages, and recommend solutions such as short-term staffing strategies, salary adjustments and staffing reorganization, as necessary.
    • Lead the execution of the current retention policy and strategy.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in labor industrial relations, human resources, business administration or related field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
    • Organizational development experience is required.
    • 10 years experience in a lead labor relations role in a unionized environment.
    • 5 years supervisory experience.
    • Experience providing advice to management on counseling, discipline, grievances, arbitrations, outside complaints and litigation.
