  • Overview

    The Chaplain is a full member of the healthcare team. He/She ministers to the spiritual, emotional, psychological and cultural needs of residents, family members/loved ones and care members.


    • As a member of the Interdisciplinary team, provides pastoral care to all residents using assessment process, clinical skills, and various other programming and resources.
    • Provides Worship and Memorial Services.
    • Facilitates and assisst at worship services provided by other clergy and volunteers.
    • Documents pastoral visits in the EMR.
    • Attends Morning Report and Palliative Care meetings in order to confer with clinical team.
    • Provides pastoral care to residents of all faiths on palliative care and at end of life; provides spiritual and bereavement support to family/loved ones and staff.
    • Assists with Pastoral Care Volunteer assignments.
    • Participates in institution-wide meetings, committees and in-services.
    • Assists the Director of Pastoral Care with related duties and projects as directed.
    • Provides in-service programs to staff as needed.
    • Models the Mission and Core Values of ArchCare.


    • Bachelor’s degree in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, or pastoral care and counseling.
    • Completed, or in the process of completing, at least Four Units of accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.)
    • Certification (or certification eligible) by Association of Professional Chaplains or related Association.
    • Two years of pastoral care experience in a healthcare setting.
    • Compassionate pastoral care to the sick in a health care setting.
    • Develop and Lead Worship/Prayer services including Memorial Services
    • An interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to pastoral care and patient/resident health that recognizes persons of varying faith traditions or of no faith tradition.
    • Sensitivity and respect for religious, spiritual, and cultural diversity.
    • Practical knowledge and adherence to the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
    • Knowledge and experience of end of life and ethical decision making.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and community members.
    • Flexibility to adapt to ongoing change and work in a fast paced, customer service driven health care environment.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
