    Performance Management

    The Occupational Therapy Assistant is a part of a great team who pride themselves in providing Five Star Service. MMW is a 362 bed subacute LTC facility, with specialized services wound care, pain management and a 10 bed hospice unit. This position organizes and participates in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, improve activities of daily living, and improve or correct disabling conditions resulting from disease or injury. Therapists are expected to be highly motivated, dedicated, compassionate professionals to all our clients customers.

     

    Responsibilities

    Performance Management

    * 
    1. Provide Five Star Customer Service to all internal and external customers 100% of the time.
    * 
    2. Contributes to the overall performance in attaining the four following results: High quality care, Provider of choice, Employer of choice, Financial success
    * 
    3. Works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. Provides treatment as outlined by the registered therapist, and in accordance with the standard of practice of Occupational Therapy.
    * 
    4. Complies with the American Occupational Therapy Association's Code of Ethics.
    * 
    5. Dispenses adaptive/assistive equipment as appropriate, with inservice to Nursing staff or caregiver as needed.
    * 
    6. Completes documentation of patient progress using daily notes, weekly notes, care plans, nursing inservice, d/c notes, monthly statistics and other forms as required and/or assigned.
    * 
    7. Within the scope of their knowledge shows a willingness to work with new staff by answering clinical and/or procedural questions.
    * 
    8. Participates in resident and family care conferences, restraint rounds, inservices, staff meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
    * 
    9. Provides inservices to residents, family, ancillary staff and other caregivers in procedures such as range of motion, therapeutic exercise, transfers, positioning, splint care, and dressing techniques.
    * 
    10. Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment. Reports the need for adjustment, repair or replacement to supervisor.
    * 
    11. Initiates and maintains ongoing and continuous communication with primary therapist and other members of the interdisciplinary team regarding the residents/patients/clients assigned.
    * 
    12. Maintains an orderly and neat therapy area and complies with the Center's and department's safety and infection control procedures.
    * 
    13. Attends at least one approved continuing education courses per year. (Attendance will not be mandatory until such time that the Assistant is eligible for reimbursement from the 1199 Training and Upgrading Fund.)
    * 
    14. Provides at least one department inservice per year.
    * 
    15. Other responsibilities as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Graduate of an AOTA approved two year Occupational Therapy Assistant program; Successful completion of Occupational Therapy Assistant certification exam

    Knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for treatment of physical and cognitive dysfunctions.
    *
    Computer skills; ablility to learn various software programs; excellent time management skills; excellent communication skills (oral and written); critical thinking and problem solving skills using logic and reasoning.
