  • Overview

    Assists Department Director with the planning and implementation of an ongoing recreation program of therapeutic activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive resident assessment, the interests and the physical, mental well-being of each resident as well as individualized needs and interests of residents. Assists Department Director with the development of objectives, policies and procedures of the Volunteer Services Program. Identify program needs and recruit volunteers. Flexible hours required, including availability of evening and weekends.


    1. Assist Department Director with direct supervision of all Therapeutic Recreation staff.
    2. Assist Department Director with oversight and quality control of all Therapeutic Recreation activity programs and special events.
    3. Assist Department Director with oversight and quality control of all Therapeutic Recreation documentation.
    4. Ensure daily coverage schedule is updated to reflect call-outs.
    5. Assist Department Director with preparation of Therapeutic Recration  program budget and ensure that is adhered to.
    6. Production and Printing of Monthly Therapeutic Recreation Calendar.
    7. Keeps inventory of Therapeutic Recreation supplies and places orders when needed.
    8. Complete monthly food/catering orders for Therapeutic Recreation department.
    9. Coordicate Transportation for all Community Outings.
    10. Production of flyers for monthly special events.
    11. Organization of Department files (employee, check requests, invoices, etc.).
    12. Keep track of the Therapeutic Recreation Department attendance and participation statistics to use in production of Annual Cost Report.
    13. Recruit Volunteers from the Community.
    14. Return calls/emails to potential volunteers
    15. Assist volunteers through application process, and keep volunteer files/paperwork organized.
    16. Assist Department Director with direct supervision of Volunteers.
    17. Assist Department Director with planning and implementation of large volunteer events.
    18. Assist Department Director with planning and implementation of large fund raising event.
    19. Daily oversight of Multimedia Center operations.



    1. Experience with events coordination and planning in a Long Term Care setting.
    2. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel & Publisher
    3. Excellent written and oral communication skillsTeam and management skills
    4. Effective decision-making skills
    5. Highly Organized
    6. Passion for and working with and leading all kinds of people.
    7. Ability to mulittask several different tasks in a high paced environement.
    8. 3 years working in a long term care setting. Preferably with supervisory responsiblities.
    9. Certified thought the NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
    10. Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Related Field. Master's Degree Preferred.
