Performs duties related to maintenance and operation of power plant equipment. Generally under close supervision, according to the specific assignments and instructions.
Performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of boilers and related equipment, pumps, air compressors, etc.
Fire boilers and controls generation of continuous supply of steam for heating hospital buildings for supplying power to machinery and auxiliary equipment and for laundry and sterilizing equipment.
Tours boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specified instructions.
Manipulates valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to increase or decrease steam pressure as required.
Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to a signal light.
Notifies supervisor when repairs or assistance is required.
Records in log book meter, gauge, graph and readings and repair work performed.
Using specified chemicals periodically tests and treats the boiler water.
Perform repairs such as replacing worn gaskets, and replacing defective parts, lubricates pumps and other related equipment.
Cleans power plant equipment internally.
Cleans and maintains power plant equipment.
Paints machinery and work area.
Daily inspects all equipment operations, making adjustments or repairing where necessary.
Reports any malfunctioning of major equipment to Supervisor.
Maintains gas, air, water and waste water system.
Performs preventive maintains record of work accomplished on Engineering maintenance equipment
Selects proper tools and materials for each job assignment. Maintains tools and equipment in proper and safe operating condition.
Follows duties assigned in Fire Safety Class.
Help with snow removal when necessary.
Sheetrock, taping and painting of walls. Tile work and grouting of walls and floors, wallpapering.
Performs all carpentry work to be done, doors, frames, hinges, locks, window repairs, making of shelves, cabinets, etc.
Assist in snaking out sewer lines.
Upkeep of all plumbing, toilets, sinks, water fountains, etc.
Up keep of all electrical work and air conditioners.
Working with hazardous chemicals and asbestos, observes HAZCOM PROGRAM.
Attends staff development programs including mandatory education subjects
Performs other related duties as assigned.
1.Three years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of boilers, incinerators, air conditioning or related equipment, or in the operation and maintenance of boilers; or
2.Not less than one and one-half years of experience as described in "1" above plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school.
3License(s) Required – New York City Certificate of Fitness P99, P98, G35, S95 oil burners and Air Pollution Certificate preferred.
