Opened in 1973, ArchCare at Ferncliff Nursing Home is located on 36 beautiful acres of the former Astor family estate just outside the historic village of Rhinebeck. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience through holistic care that addresses not only the residents' physical needs, but their social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs as well.


Working under the Administrator and with the Medical Director, develops and maintains standards of medical and nursing services and its documentation according to the general administrative policies of the Home and the Code of the Department of Health. Achieves objectives according to the policies of the Home and in compliance with the federal, state and local Departments of Health by directing the administration of nursing services to the residents. Plans, organizes and directs effective administration of nursing units. Supervises members of staff and collaborates with them to carry out the tasks and duties commensurate with good nursing policies and procedures. Delegates to members of staff specific responsibilities for efficient execution of these tasks and duties. 


  • Ensures that the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Department are in compliance with the Mission of the facility.
  • Develops standards of nursing practice for all levels of nursing personnel.
  • Develops and keeps current policy and procedure manuals for all nursing personnel.
  • Critiques and updates job descriptions for all nursing personnel.
  • Recommends to administration any changes in staffing levels to coordinate with resident care demands and keeps a written staffing plan.
  • Recruits, selects, assigns all professional nursing staff and coordinates their orientation.
  • Oversees disciplinary action to all Nursing Staff including termination of any Nursing employees.
  • Monitors attendance of in-service hours of nursing personnel.
  • Implements effective mechanisms for the supervision and performance appraisal of nursing personnel.
  • Oversees daily operations of the MDS Department and Medicare PPS, and coordinates the bi-annual and quarterly PRI's.
  • Participates in the following nursing home committees: • Quality Assurance • Safety • Exposure Control • Admissions • Medical Staff • Ethics • Dept. Head Meetings
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing care.
  • Prepares the annual department budget.
  • Provides periodic reports to administration as required.
  • Participates in professional activities within the community.
  • Participates in community activities.
  • Performs related duties as directed by the Administrator


Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience, at least 4 years of which must be in an administrative capacity in the field of gerotonlogical nursing


Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree.


Currently licensed to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York.
